Don’t Read This Blog

It’s the gayest blog ever. It’s so gay, it makes RuPaul look like an Amish minister. That’s how gay it is. And the owner? Gay. Bidinotto makes Richard Simmons look like a hetero.

Gay.

Critical update. Just kidding. Robert’s a righteous dude and I was just pulling his chain.

Why Atlas Shrugged, Pt. 1 Died In The Theater

It wasn’t the critics. Critics panned such right wing themed movies such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Narnia series, and dare I say it? Yes, the Star Wars movies. All blockbusters that made gobs of money. Why do I classify them as right wing themed? Because they go to the heart of the Right. The battle of good versus evil.

It wasn’t the source material, Atlas Shrugged is and continues to be a bestselling book, in part thanks to the current administration. The novel’s popularity has spanned decades, and continues to influence anyone who deigns to take the challenge of cracking open its spine.

Was it the casting? Not in my opinion. I thought the cast did well in representing the main characters of the book. How about the treatment of the book in translation? No, I didn’t have a problem with that either. Every book turned into a movie has to suffer the edits, but I thought the director did just fine, and there were some powerful scenes injected that you might have missed if you weren’t looking for them. Like the van with the “Ministry of Redistribution” parked in front of a line of moochers.

Why I believe that this movie didn’t do nearly as well as it should have can be boiled down to shitty marketing. Sorry, but you don’t sink 20 million dollars into a project and then throw it out there with only a website and word of mouth. The Conservative movement owns talk radio, with millions of listeners with millions of dollars. Despite that, I heard one, just one, mention of Atlas Shrugged on Sean Hannity’s show. What a mistake that was. Fork over a couple mil on Rush and Beck. Not only that, but there is a wealth of right wing blogs who offer cheap advertising. If there were any Blogads for Atlas Shrugged, I missed them.

Atlas Shrugged was a good movie, artistic license and all. It didn’t deserve it’s descent into obscurity, but, as John Galt himself may have observed, it earned it. Hopefully, the producer will find a way to do parts two and three. Maybe direct to DVD. There is an audience, and, as we all know, Dagny Taggart hates a quitter.
